Fundraising total: $1694. Kathy approached 2 strangers today who donated. Actually, she tried a lot more, but got 2 people. Great job, Kathy! Thanks, nice strangers!
Boy were conditions awesome today! I had tailwinds gusting to 40 MPH. I averaged 5.9 miles/hour for the first 11 miles.
Things started out pretty quick. Jack met me at 5ish and rewatered me, and then off to the lunch point, where Kathy joined us. Jack was going to bike from the lunch point to meet and ride with me for a while, but the headwinds he had to fight to get to me threw that plan out for today.
We had a nice lunch at Lake Lillian. I had a spinach and sausage omelette with toast. It was delicious, but maybe not the best idea. The afternoon started out a little slower, with more stops.
The good relationship with the truckers remains. Although this guy is approaching from behind, most trucks slow down, move over as much as possible and wave back. Way to go, truckers! Seems like the dairy trucks are especially friendly, and the Kandioyi County workers also gave plenty of room.
I passed this historical marker, and in honor of Paul Reese (if you don't know, look him up, he's part of the inspiration for this run) I pulled off for a picture. Unfortunately I didn't want to walk through the tall grass to get to the sign, so I hoped I'd be able to read it in the picture. Not so much..
And finally the Luce Line!
And a little video...I was pretty excited...
However, it was a false start. Once I started out, it turned out the trail is not really crushed limestone in this area. It's grass, and not yet mowed. So after running the final mile through knee-high grass, I don't plan to start on the trail tomorrow. It looks like between 5 and 11 miles tomorrow, it will be runnable.
Intake today? Bad girl! 2 pancakes at Molly's Cafe right outside our motel, the aforementioned spinach omelette and toast, 1 Cliff Shot, 1 Stinger Gel, a roast pork commercial sandwich with LOTS of mashed potatoes (I had the 1/2 order, I don't know who would be able to finish a full order) 2 1919 Root Beers, and a piece of rhubarb pie. MMMMmmmmmm! Also lots of water. I've decided, due to some suble signals, to lay off purple gatorade for a while...
Here's the GPS Data:
Second Half You might notice this is longer than I'm claiming...I did a .2 mile round trip to look at Thompson Lake, and didn't count it because it wasn't FORWARD MOMENTUM...
