I have been running for about 20 years and have completed more than 60 marathons (including one in each state) and ultramarathons. In 2011, I ran across MN to raise money for cancer. Now, in 2021, at age 52, I'm going to run and bike across MN to raise money for disabled veterans.

Day 6

TOTAL MILES:  62.23 left! 137.77 done
FUNDRAISING: $2,014 of $5000 goal!

Day 6 had some nice surprises, and one not nice one.
Nice surprises included reversing the route to take advantage of the east wind again.  So this morning I ran from east of Winsted back to the hotel.
We met a nice couple that lives off Cty 2 with 3 adult children that have had cancer.  One daughter is a breast cancer survivor, one son had his salivary glands removed due to cancer and one daughter is undergoing radiation right now.  So, the morning 1/2  is dedicated to them.

Silver Lake has a pair of pelicans.  They're pretty neat.  The bad surprise was 4 more road miles in Winsted. RRrrrr.  Actually, the road was pretty quiet, but I still have to be much more vigalent.  The morning had another milestone:

This afternoon my brother came out and did the afternoon leg.  He biked with me for more than 9 miles, and hasn't been on a bike since junior high.  I think he's going to be more sore tomorrow than I will!  It sure made the time go by fast.

Another good surprise is an interview tomorrow with the Northwest Community TV Channel 12.  How exciting!  Hoping the publicity for American Cancer Society will move the donations up even higher!  Also, my friend Carol will be joining me for a section.  She's going to have to slow down quite a bit, but it will be fun to have my first runner join me!

I've really enjoyed the variety in terrain.  The first few days were really flat.  I could see the Cosmos watertower for 6 miles.  No foolin'!  I could see the crew car a mile away.  There were a lot of fields (also a lot of flooding in the area).  There are still a lot of farms, but the trail has a green buffer a lot so I feel like I'm in a forest.  It's much more rolling.  Tomorrow I'll enter the suburbs and that will really be different.  It will be fun to look at houses and landscaping along the way.

Intake:  another disappointment!  My iron stomach has given out on me.  One pancake, 3 cliff shots, total of 3 peanut butter sandwiches, a chocolate chip cookie, turkey bacon avacado subway and that's about it.  I'm not particularly hungry and the crew now has to hassle me into eating.  Go, crew!

I'd also like to point out that the gear I got at Right Fit Running has been treating me great!  My feet are in great condition due to my Fitsox and Mizunos.
Thanks for your support!
