I have been running for about 20 years and have completed more than 60 marathons (including one in each state) and ultramarathons. In 2011, I ran across MN to raise money for cancer. Now, in 2021, at age 52, I'm going to run and bike across MN to raise money for disabled veterans.

Day 7 was heaven!

Day 7:
Total miles: 160.23  Google maps says 39.5 left!!
Donations: $2014 of $5000

I'll entertain you with a story I forgot to mention a couple days ago.  The day I went through the tall grass, when I got back to the hotel and started to get into the shower, I noticed a wood tick.  Removed, got into shower, started shampooing and felt something about 3/8" diameter and 2" long behind my ear.  My immediate thought was "LEECH" which resulted in screaming and a lot of jumping around, which caused my sunglasses earpiece cover to dislodge and fall to the ground.  Duh. Still chuckling about that one...I wasn't running in Borneo for Pete's sake!

I was a tad worried today about a) the temp b) storms and c) getting to my interview with Channel 12 on time - 18.5 miles before 10:30 am.  It all went about as smoothly as it could.

We checked out of the Silver Lake Inn (boy, they sure treated us nice there and at the associated Molly's Cafe-special thanks to owner Frank and do-it-all Bev) and headed to the start just east of Watertown.  I hit the trail by 6 AM and the miles just rolled along.  Dad did a super job meeting me a LOT and having peanut butter sandwiches and Electrolyte tablets ready for me.

I passed an alpaca or llama farm and a lot of horse farms.  Pretty quick it seemed like the elevation was a gradual down.  That kept the pace going smooth.  Around mile 10 I started hearing thunder, but Dad said it was far enough away we didn't need to worry.

I passed the 1/2way point for the day and reset the GPS.  MapMyRun is hit and miss with marathon length, so rather than risk it, I restarted, which confused me some later on...

My friend Carol joined me just after it started to pour.  We were drenched.  I was wringing out my skirt.  She had left her car out by Medicine Lake and ran to meet me.  We'd be talking and I'd notice we're going 9 minute miles.  She's fast... it made the time go so quickly.  We got to the spot for the interview and the parking wasn't very good there and I was about 40 minutes early so we did another 1.5 and called to report the new location.

While we were resting up before the interview, a carload of my parents' neighbors showed up - thanks to Brenda & Ron, John and Tom for making the time pass quickly there, too.

The Channel 12 reporter and cameraman were SO nice.  They interviewed me and then Dad, and then Carol and I ran around a little.  Then they said they'd just follow us along our route for a while.  They ended up spending over an hour with us and I was just able to watch it on the live streaming broadcast.  I thought they did a nice job.  I hope it will generate some more interest in the American Cancer Society.  I'll post a link as soon as it's available on their website.

Intake today has been pretty sad:  2 or 3 peanut butter sandwiches - lost count.  One thing of Cliff Shots, a bag of Cheetos, what was left of the combos and a chocolate milk.  I'm going to angle for Noodles tonight, but it might end up being mac N cheese. Who cares?  I only have 39.5 miles left!!!

Thanks for reading these posts!  Thanks to everyone who donated.  If you've been thinking about donating, please don't wait.  If you can't spare the minimum $10 that the on-line donation requires, email me at mn262runner@gmail.com and I'll get you info on how you can donate from $1 on up.  Thanks again!
